Author guidelines

The full author guidelines are published in the Resources library, which is the authoritative version. In summary:

Article types

• Research papers: original research, typically 6,000 to 8,000 words.
• Practice papers: rigorous accounts of applied work and what others can learn from it, typically 4,000 to 6,000 words.
• Reviews: systematic or critical reviews of a field, typically 6,000 to 10,000 words.

Preparing your manuscript

• Submit a PDF or Word document, anonymised for review: remove author names and identifying self-citations.
• Include an abstract of no more than 250 words and up to six keywords.
• Use the IEEE numbered reference style, applied consistently and completely; include DOIs wherever they exist.
• Declare funding, competing interests and any use of generative AI tools in preparing the manuscript.

Authorship and licence

Authors keep copyright. On acceptance, authors sign an author agreement granting IIOET Limited a licence to publish, and the paper is published under the licence set out in open access and licensing.
