Mission

IIoET is the professional body for emerging technology. Its mission is to set and hold professional standards across artificial intelligence, quantum, blockchain and cyber security, and the convergence between them; to publish the thinking of the people shaping these fields; and to keep the route into the profession open for the next generation.

IIoET carries out its mission through three activities.

Thought leadership and the IIoET Journal. IIoET’s flagship activity is publishing rigorous, practitioner-focused work. The peer-reviewed IIoET Journal and the Insights stream give the profession a place to set out what it knows, to test it in the open, and to raise the standard of debate where the four domains meet.

Recognition. IIoET recognises expertise through assessed membership grades, from Associate Member to Senior Fellow, and through competency-based certification. Each set of letters stands for a published level of practice, and every holder is bound by the Code of Conduct.

The Emerging Careers Pathway. Entry-level work that once built experience is increasingly automated, and fewer people are getting the start that makes them tomorrow’s experts. IIoET is rebuilding that first rung of the career ladder through foundational certification, mentoring from Fellows and senior members, and introductions to organisations that need emerging talent.

Vision

A trusted, international, cross-domain professional home for emerging technology: one in which practitioners anywhere can be recognised for the work they actually do, in which employers and the public can rely on what a designation means, and in which a new generation is ready to take on the work as today’s experts step back.

IIoET is building the published standards, assessed grades, code of conduct and continuing professional development expected of a serious professional body. In time, as its membership, track record and standing mature, it intends to seek formal recognition of that standing, including chartered status.

Values

Rigour. We assess against published standards, base decisions on evidence, and hold our own work to the standard we ask of members.

Integrity. We say what we know and what we do not, declare our interests, and keep our editorial and assessment decisions independent.

Openness. Our standards, governing documents and Journal are public, so anyone can see what our designations stand for and use the work we publish.

Responsibility. We expect emerging technology to be built and used with care for the people it affects, and we hold ourselves and our members to that expectation.

Opportunity. We keep the profession open to people from every background, and treat developing the next generation as part of every senior member’s role.

Convergence. We bring the four domains together, because the hardest problems, and the most important ones, sit where they meet.
