1. The Precision Frame
IIoET’s identity is anchored by the Precision Frame. The mark sets the letters IIoET inside a fine rectangular frame, with corner brackets inside the frame and registration marks crossing it at the centre of each side and sitting just outside each corner. The registration marks are borrowed from engineering drawing and print production, where they are used to align and check work to a tight tolerance. Together, frame, brackets and marks stand for accuracy, strict standards and advanced technical engineering, which is what IIoET asks of its members and of itself.
The mark should always appear clean, sharp and perfectly balanced. This guide sets out the three variants of the logo and when to use each, the clear space and size rules, the colour palette and type, the accessibility rule that governs colour, and the tagline lock-up. It supersedes brand identity guide v1.0. The approved artwork is described in section 11.
2. The three variants
The logo is a single, cohesive mark in three colour variants. The geometry is identical in each; only the colour changes.
Primary: white on dark
The main form of the logo. Use it on dark, complex or immersive backgrounds: digital interfaces, video, presentations with dark slides, and the cover band of IIoET documents. The white lines keep the mark crisp and highly visible.
Inverted: charcoal on light
Use on clean, minimal, light backgrounds: white papers, official stationery, the running header of IIoET documents and light web pages. It gives a formal, corporate imprint. Use solid Charcoal only, with no gradients or textures.
Tech-focused: Precision Blue frame
The frame, brackets and registration marks are in Precision Blue and the letters in white. Use it on technology innovation panels, data visualisation and as a secondary brand signature in high-tech product contexts. Because the letters are white, this variant is always placed on a dark background, normally Charcoal. It is never placed on white or on Precision Blue.
3. Clear space and minimum size
Keep a clear space around the logo, free of text, images and other graphic elements, at least equal to the width of one “I” in “IIoET”. The clear space is measured from the outermost registration marks. In the master artwork, each “I” is 30 units wide in a mark 753 units wide, so the clear space is about four per cent of the width of the logo on every side. More space is always better.
The logo is never reproduced narrower than 25 mm in print or 120 pixels on screen, measured across the outer registration marks. Below a certain size the fine lines of the frame and registration marks become too thin to reproduce reliably. For screen use, the website draws the mark with a minimum line weight so that the frame and marks stay visible at header size, while the letterforms never change. Small-size artwork drawn this way may be used wherever the logo appears at small sizes.
4. Misuse
The precision of the mark is the point of it, so it must never be altered. In particular, do not stretch, squash, skew or rotate the logo; redraw it, retype the letters in another font or change their spacing; remove, move or thicken parts of the frame, brackets or registration marks, other than through the approved small-size artwork; recolour it outside the three approved variants, or apply gradients, shadows, outlines, glows or textures; place it on a busy photograph, a pattern, or any background that obscures the fine lines; place the Primary or Tech-focused variant on a light background, or the Inverted variant on a dark one; set it on a Precision Blue fill; crowd it with other logos or text inside the clear space; or combine it with other words or symbols to create a new mark, other than the approved tagline lock-up.
5. Colour palette
| Colour | Hex | RGB | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Charcoal | #2C3E50 | 44, 62, 80 | Inverted logo; headings, table headers and the cover band of documents; dark backgrounds |
| Precision Blue | #00A8FF | 0, 168, 255 | Frame of the Tech-focused logo; rules and accents only |
| Pure White | #FFFFFF | 255, 255, 255 | Primary logo; letters of the Tech-focused logo; text on Charcoal |
| Ink | #0B1F33 | 11, 31, 51 | Body text |
| Border grey | #CCD4DC | 204, 212, 220 | Table borders and hairlines |
| Tint | #F3F5F7 | 243, 245, 247 | Alternate table rows and light panels |
Charcoal, Precision Blue and Pure White are the brand colours. Ink, Border grey and Tint are supporting colours for documents and interfaces. Use Precision Blue sparingly, so that it keeps its value as an accent.
6. Typography
Roboto is the primary typeface, used for all headlines and body copy. It is a clean, geometric sans serif that reads well on screen and in print. In IIoET documents, body text is Roboto 10.5 pt, main headings Roboto 15 pt bold and subheadings Roboto 12 pt bold, all in Charcoal or Ink.
Fira Code is the secondary, technical typeface, used for references, version numbers, technical callouts, code and data visualisation, where it reinforces the engineering theme. For example:

Where Roboto or Fira Code cannot be used, a similar clean geometric sans serif or monospace typeface may be substituted. Both Roboto and Fira Code are freely licensed for use.
7. Accessibility
Never set white text on Precision Blue. The combination has a contrast ratio of about 2.6 to 1, which fails the WCAG 2.2 AA requirement of 4.5 to 1 for normal text and 3 to 1 for large text. If a Precision Blue fill is ever needed, set Ink text on it, which gives a ratio of about 6.4 to 1. White on Charcoal (about 11 to 1) and Ink on white (about 16.7 to 1) both comfortably exceed AA.
Precision Blue on white has a ratio of about 2.6 to 1, so blue rules on a white page are decorative and must never be the only way information is conveyed. Precision Blue on Charcoal, as in the Tech-focused logo, has a ratio of about 4.2 to 1. In charts and diagrams, do not rely on colour alone: use labels, patterns or position as well. Logos and images in digital documents carry alternative text.
8. Tagline lock-up
The tagline lock-up sets the line “The professional body for emerging technology” centred beneath the logo, in Roboto, in the same colour as the logo’s letters. The tagline is aligned to the width of the frame and separated from the bottom registration marks by at least the clear space. The lock-up is used where IIoET is introduced to an audience that may not know it, such as event materials, the website footer and press materials. The tagline is never set on its own as a logo, never reworded, and never placed beside the logo rather than beneath it.
9. Digital examples
Website. iioet.org uses the Inverted logo in the header of light pages and the Primary logo on dark sections and the footer. Links and focus states may use Precision Blue as an accent, provided text contrast meets AA.
Presentations. Title and section slides use a Charcoal background with the Primary logo; content slides use a white background with the Inverted logo, small, in a consistent corner. Data slides may use the Tech-focused variant as a signature on a Charcoal panel.
Social media and video. Profile images use the Primary logo centred on Charcoal with the full clear space. Video uses the Primary logo for idents and lower thirds.
Email signatures and digital badges. Use the Inverted logo on white. Member badges are issued by IIoET and must not be recreated.
10. Print examples
Controlled documents. The cover carries a Charcoal band with the Primary logo and a Precision Blue rule beneath, followed by the control block; later pages carry the Inverted logo, small, in the running header, as set out in the Controlled Document Template (IIOET-TPL-0003).
Stationery. Letterheads and business cards use the Inverted logo on white, with Charcoal text and a single Precision Blue rule as the only accent.
Certificates. Membership and certification certificates use the Inverted logo, with the holder’s name in Roboto and references and dates in Fira Code.
Event materials and signage. Large-format pieces use the Primary logo on Charcoal or the tagline lock-up, with generous clear space so the fine lines read from a distance.
11. Logo pack
The logo pack contains master artwork for each of the three variants, drawn as vector shapes from the geometry used on iioet.org. Each variant is supplied as an SVG master and as PNG files with transparent backgrounds at 512, 1,024 and 2,048 pixels wide.
The logo pack is available on request from contact@iioet.org, with “Press” in the subject line.
Tagline lock-up artwork is supplied for each variant. Never use the PNG images from the original brand concept, which have a background pattern and watermark embedded in them.
